What ohm Coil Should You Use With Nic Salts?

Vape coils for nic salts

Part of the fun of vaping is customising every aspect of the experience, from your kit to your e-liquid. You’re even able to adjust the nicotine kick you receive thanks to a judicious application of nic salts to your juice mix.

When they first came on the market, nicotine salts could only be enjoyed using a closed pod system with pre-mixed juices, and a standardised coil. That was fine if you just wanted to vape-and-go, but for those tinkerers and engineers in the vaping community, they knew they were missing out.

Nowadays, there is an extensive selection of nic salt solutions suitable for any vaping set-up and you can get many of them at the F&S Vape Shop online store, or one of our Central London vape shops. So how do you get the best hit from your nic salts and what coil should you be using to obtain it?

High concentration = high resistance

This is the general rule of thumb for nic salts and vaper coils. An e-liquid containing nic salts typically has around 20mg/ml of Nicotine in there – that’s a lot. Using a low-resistance coil to vape such a potent mix results in a burnt taste to the vapour and a harsh sensation at the back of the throat when you inhale. The more concentrated the nic salts, the higher the resistance of your coil needs to be. If we take 20mg of nic salts in your e-liquid to be the standard, you’re looking at a coil with 1.0 to 1.4 ohms of resistance.

Materials

While there are mesh coils on the market specifically designed for enjoying nic salts, most veteran vapers agree they produce a harsh sensation in the throat. This is because they employ a larger heating surface area that can singe the nic salts in their juice. The solution? Ceramic. Nothing gives you a smoother experience with nic salts than a ceramic coil.

Sub-ohm solutions

We’ve already said that you need greater resistance for greater concentration of nic salts, which would seem to make sub-ohm coils redundant for this purpose. While that is true, many manufacturers of nic salts are introducing sub-ohm salts, to allow fans of sub-ohm coils to enjoy both products. In effect, these are lower concentration mixes, ensuring that the high wattage levels won’t burn the juice.

We have an extensive range of ohm coils, nic salts, and other vaping accessories available for immediate purchase from our online store. If you’re looking for a vape shop in Central London, all four of our brick and mortar stores are now back open for business. We’ll be happy to assist you in person at any one of them.
