What are the different types of electronic cigarette?

Pod Systems: Pod systems are a type of E-Cig that have gained popularity over the last few years with new and established vapers alike. Sometimes referred to as an all-in-one device, they work in a similar way to the original cigarette-a-like electronic cigarettes. Their simple design consists of a battery and a pre-filled e-liquid pod, and they are activated by the user inhaling on the mouthpiece. Some pod systems include an activation button which must be depressed to activate the device.

Pod systems are discreet and easy to carry as well as great value for money. In comparison to cig-a-likes, they feature more powerful batteries and larger amounts of e-liquid in the pods, so they are also a more economical option.

Vape Pens: Vape pens are one of the most widely available types of E-Cigs. Popular with new vapers, they feature a long, tube-shaped design that consists of an encased battery, a heating element called an atomiser, a tank that contains a coil, and a mouthpiece called a drip tip.

Vape pens are well liked as they are easy to use and are usually activated by a single button. Although some vape pens may include an LED screen to switch between different settings, the majority don't include this.

Vape pens usually feature a 510 thread that makes them compatible with a wide range of tanks. As the tanks are refillable, vape pens can be used with any pre-mixed or DIY e-liquids, however, they generally have lower power settings so work best with 50/50 or high-VG e-liquids.

Vape Mods: Vape mods are the most advanced type of electronic cigarette and tend to be favoured by more established vapers. Mods consist of the box shaped base (although some are available in different shapes) that contains the batteries and controls, a tank, and a mouthpiece. The variable settings make them suitable for both mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping.

E-liquid

E-liquid (also known as vape juice or e-juice) is the liquid used in e-cigarettes and other vaping devices to produce the vapour, flavour, and nicotine hit.

It usually consists of two main ingredients, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) as well as some additional ingredients such as flavourings, nicotine, and distilled water. E-liquids can consist of any ratio of PG and VG with high PG liquids having a thinner consistency that is suitable for use with lower wattage devices such as pods and starter kits, and high VG liquids having a thicker consistency that is suitable for sub-ohm vaping.

High PG e-liquids are usually preferred by ex-smokers and those that are new to vaping as they produce a stronger throat hit and a cleaner flavour. For a versatile e-liquid that is suitable for most devices up to 50 watts, a 50% PG/50% VG mix is ideal.
